Must Listen
Tyler you have done it again. He has managed to release and album that has infected my rotations and my mind for what is probably years to come. I generally trolled myself waiting so long to listen to Igor which many would consider to be his magnum opus - rightfully so in fact.
With Chromokopia I think we get a great middle ground with the singing and R’n’b focussed Igor and the traditionally rapity rap shit that we get from Tyler with CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST: The Estate Sale something more in the vein of what is probably my now third favourite album of his Flower Boy .
I think what sets this album apart from the others is how real it comes across with its subject matter. The track Take your mask off is a perfect example of this:
And none them face tats gon’ hide the fact that you sad, bruh You ain’t a thug,
You was in drama club, you’s a actor But now cuz gettin’ validation from the dumb and
Confused (Ayy, blood) Now you facin’ five to ten ‘cause you had somethin’ to prove, let’s
Talk about it
Or even seeing a very introspective Tyler on Tomorrow where he talks about getting older and the different lives he lives hen compared to his friends:
My brodie had another baby, that’s like number two (Number two) My homegirl a
Knot-tier, she like thirty-two (Thirty-two) They sharin’ pictures of these moments, shit
Is really cute And all I got is photos of my ‘Rari and some silly suits (Man)
He just doesn’t miss! While righting this I am finding it so hard to put into words how well put together the album is. The production is as good as ever - we all know Tyler is a brilliant mind in the studio. The features are immaculate - just hear the magic that Teezo Touchdown and himself manage to put out on Darling, I . Or that Sexy Reddd sounds pretty good on Sticky - like it is insanity!!!
I am done Geeking out listen to this and his entire discography… Twice. He is one of the greatest of our generation.
